Total Phenolic Content
(TPC) Determination and Phytochemical Screening of
Plecranthus Esculentus Tubers of Rusape, Zimbabwe by
Masimba Tapera,Selemawit Abebe Gitore, Tobias Shumba, Nomore
P. Male and Sydney Kaseke. |
Plectranthus esculentus is a
common tuberous, perennial plant widely distributed in Rusape
district of Zimbabwe and other areas of eastern and central
and southern Africa. Phytochemicals were extracted from
Plectranthus esculentus tubers using the matrix solid-phase
dispersion extraction technique with ethanol as the
extraction solvent. The extracts were first screened for
flavonoids, reducing sugars, saponins, glycosides,
terpernoids, alkaloids, and tannins using well known
phytochemical screening procedures. Plectranthus esculentus
tuber extracts were found to contain for flavonoids, reducing
sugars, saponins, glycosides, terpernoids, alkaloids, and
tannins. Total phenolic content for the tuber extracts was
found to be 11.03 ±0.05mgGAE/g fresh weight. The results
revealed the presence of medicinally important phytochemicals
in the tubers. The presence of these phytochemicals helps to
explain the importance of Plectranthus esculentus. The tubers
have potential uses in food preservation and natural
medicine. There is a need for continued cultivation,
preservation and more research on Plectranthus esculentus in
Zimbabwe and abroad. |

Lady in Conflict: Study
of the Newspaper Reporting of Kashmir by Dr. Anupama |
Numerous violent conflicts have
occurred in the world since centuries, and today the
conflicts have only become more deadly. One such conflict
that had been going on from more than seven decades now is
the conflict in Kashmir. This conflict has resulted in many
violations being perpetrated by security forces, militants
and other unknown people and agencies. One of the silent and
the worst affected victims of these violations have been the
women, who have suffered both as the active as well as the
passive victims. Media being the eyes and ears of the society
can play a crucial role, especially at the time of wars and
conflicts. It contributes to the people’s viewpoint on wars
and conflicts, and is also essential in shaping the people’s
perception on women. This research paper tried to analyze how
much coverage is given by newspapers to the women affected by
conflict in Kashmir. For achieving this objective content
analysis of the news coverage of three selected events
(wherein women were the victims), from the two leading
English newspapers of the Kashmir Valley, i.e, Greater
Kashmir and Rising Kashmir, was done. The research revealed
that though the conflict related news gets maximum coverage
in the newspapers of Kashmir under study but the women
victims of the conflict get unsatisfactory coverage, this
inadequate coverage is given mostly to the women killed in
police action whereas, the women killed by unknown gunmen on
the suspicion of being police informers get least coverage in
the already negligible coverage. |

A Brief Analysis on
Mechanized Machine Number Identification Process using Image
Processing Method by Dr. Tendai Mpofu |
One of the major problems in
virtually every developing country is traffic management,
most especially there is seemingly great difficulty to
pinpoint the owner of vehicle who violates the pre-defined
traffic rules and drives off with a high speed. It is
therefore not possible to arrest and punish those that
violate traffic rules, due to the fact that law enforcement
agencies may not be able to get vehicle number from the
number plate of a moving vehicle because of vehicle’s speed.
This calls for a need to build an Automatic vehicle number
plate recognition system as a solution to this problem. This
paper discussed various number plate recognition techniques
used by several researchers and also reveals their advantages
and disadvantages. |

Nonanedioic Acid Emulgel
for Acne and Excitable Pigmentation by Dr. Paramjeet Kour |
Acne is a very common
inflammatory skin disease also known as Pimples. Pimples are
commonly found on face, chest, upper back and neck.
Propionibacterium and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) are
responsible for acne they are mainly present in Sweat gland.
Azelaic acid is anti-keratinizing, antibacterial and
anti-inflammatory drug. Azelaic Acid is mainly act on
cellular protein synthesis in both aerobic and anaerobic
bacteria and it reducing the proliferation of
Propionibacterium. Azelaic acid is used to treat acnes as
well as Hyperpigmentation and it also reduce inflammation and
redness. But Azelaic Acid is Hydrophobic drug low soluble and
low permeable so The Aim of present study was to Enhance
Permeability and Solubility of Azelaic Acid by Formulating
Emulgel For effective treatment of Acne and
Hyperpigmentation. |
